Early Life and Ascension to the Throne
Richard was born on September 8, 1157, in Oxford, England, the third legitimate son of King Henry II of England and Eleanor of Aquitaine. From a young age, Richard demonstrated remarkable leadership qualities and physical courage. His mother, Eleanor, was a formidable influence, encouraging his interest in the arts of war and knightly chivalry.
Despite being the third son, political turmoil and the untimely deaths of his elder brothers positioned Richard as the heir apparent. In 1189, following the death of Henry II, Richard ascended the English throne and was crowned King of England. shutdown123
